Today was a much better day than the past two. I was going to stay in Jacksonville for a trail or two there but it kept raining and raining and raining and I did not want to spend too much time in one place, so off I went. And I am glad I did; once I got South of Jacksonville the weather broke and although I didn't get a lot of sunshine, there was no rain and the weather was much warmer. Even got up to 82 later in the afternoon. Good thing I went hiking in the early morning.
The Guana River Marsh Aquatic Reserve is a bit out of the way and they should probably think of renaming it the Non-reserve. A reserve is here to be a safe haven for the animals. Animals? Ha! The only animals I saw were a couple of squirrels scurrying away from me.
And I have to admit, I did enjoy the walk. But why on earth does someone take the time to build a trail on an absolutely beautiful peninsula and then build the trail where you can hardly see any water. I might as well have been walking in Nebraska; yes, it was that flat just a lot more trees. I had to walk nearly 11,000 steps before I got to the water's edge. Give me a break. They should have consulted me before marking the trail Ha!
The past two days I walked 2,790 and 3,889 steps respectively. Today, and its not over - 18,568. Ha! Anyone beat me?
Enjoy the pictures.
