Alford Greenway - Tallahassee

You'll have to forgive as I'm feeling a bit philosophical this morning.

When I went traveling on my golf trip back in 2009-10 I would stop at tourist "traps" that interested me or nature trails or national parks and the like.  When I would go on my hikes, short or long, I would always have my ear buds in, listening to music as I walked.  My Xiaomi (cell phone) is now about 4 years old and the battery is just not what it use to be.  Good thing I bought a new cell phone but I won't have it for another week of two.  I took it on one hike and it was dead before I made it back to the car.  So, I no longer listen to music but only take pictures; seems to be working out just fine.  But man, not listening to music allows your mind to really wander.

And here's where it really gets bizarre!

I'm guessing that some day in the probably not so distant future we will all have both ocular implants and cerebral implants to enhance the human experience.  So wherever you go your sights and thoughts will be constantly recorded.  The seeing things, I can't "see" (get the pun) in hitches in this.  Who wouldn't want to relive the beauty in life and as for the bad, well, trials would be a lot simpler, right?!?

It's the cerebral implant that I think will be really, really goofy.  Especially in the beginning.  Our minds, well, at least mine, doesn't think in a straight line of thought, but instead is jumping every which way.  I am only guessing here, but I'll bet any scientist looking at my cerebral recordings for the first time would seek to commit me.  I would be having a great conversation with myself, or giving a profound speech, or solving a world problem, only to be diverted by other thoughts creeping in and out.  Is everyone else like that?

Might also be the "sins be shouted from the roof tops" method of judging ourselves.  Yikes!!  Last thing I would want is someone crawling through my mind.  The funny part, they'd  probably get lost!  lol

The hike I took was a fairly easy hike.  It was a "greenway" in the middle of a subdivision in Tallahassee, Florida.  And like most hikes I've  been on, even though they show water (lakes, ponds, golf, ocean) the trails themselves very rarely even get close to the water.  What is with that!!??  But it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed the hike and I'm still feeling fine this morning.  Knee are good, back is a little stiff; but what's unusual about that!!

Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park is a fascinating place.  If it weren't for the few of you who are reading my posts and still know me, I could walk into the glades and never be found again.  Not that I would, I'm just saying that if someone wanted to get lost, the United States is so huge that they could if they really wanted to.  I don't think we really understand the vastness of this country until we are in the midst of it or are standing on the top of a mountain looking out over a beautiful vista.

Of course the Everglades probably wouldn't be my getting-lost-in-the-wilderness of choice part of the USA.  First, not a lot of animals I'd want to eat; more likely more that want to eat me.  Not a good combination.  Oh, there is plenty to eat, they are just tiny bugs scampering on the ground and there are millions of them.  Every step I took, you could almost envision the ground moving.  It really was both funny and kind of scary.  And I'm not very sure how dry you stay.  I have a feeling that if you were to set up camp on one of the prairies that in the middle of the night you might find yourself knee deep in water.  Even as I was walking around, the ground was moist or had been just a few hours earlier.  If the climate alarmists are correct, the whole of Southern Florida will completely disappear.

I wasn't able to hike as far as I wanted because my left knee started to act up on me and I'm beginning to listen to my body a bit more. Either that or I was just being lazy.  Let's go with the former!!  lol

I did catch the sight of two eagles as I was hiking out.  The last couple of pictures capture them but they were so far away I'm not sure you'll be able to see anything.  I attempted to enlarge the pictures but pixels do have their limitations.

Oh, and wonder of wonder, I was able to take my first shower of the trip at the camp site.  Oh, am I  going to sleep well tonight.

Yes, the trails were this bad.  I'm not sure how many people had been on this trail of late.  And this was a wider part of the trail.  Most of the trail left my bare legs scratched up from trigs branching across the path.

An example of the thistles scratching my legs.

You just never know what you might find in the wilderness.  Yes, looks like an old tractor engine.

Believe it or not, this is a crab hole.  And the only reason I know that is because I saw the little buddy crawl in.
